Appearance[]

Douglas is a Grey Wolf Faunus who proudly displays his pointed Wolfen ears. He sported a set of short, messy hair atop his head.

Face[]

Douglas has a tanned complexion, with his fur a dark tone of grey, and his hair warm black in colour. Douglas's face looks human enough, with a Germanic nose, thin lips, and a slight overbite. His cool amber-green eyes seems to always be tired and / or sad, but immediately became much sharper and focused whenever he has to fight.

Body Build[]

Douglas possesses a toned body, with slightly defined abdominal muscles, and shapely arms and legs. It almost looked like he has a Swimmer’s Build.

Street Clothing[]

Douglas wears a pair of dark blue jeans, gunmetal grey t-shirt, and black sneakers. During cold or rainy weathers, he also sport a black polyester jacket, dark brown-red cotton scarf, and a grey beanie that cover his ears up.

Huntsman Uniform[]

During missions or in a fight, he can be seen wearing a pair of dark grey cargo pants, a light grey long sleeved t-shirt with some blood red lines for styling, a pale, washed out blue scarf which he could pull up to cover his face, a pair of yellow brown hiking boots, and a double sided hooded hunting cloak. Attached on his right hip is a waterproofed leather box pouch, which can contain, at most, three tubes of assorted Powdered Dust, with Gravity Dust taking one permanent slot already.

  • One side of the cloak is dark green, which helps blend into the Forests, the Fields, and the Dark; and the other side is dark slate grey, which somewhat blends into the urban environment.

Personality[]

Douglas was born into a very moral family, and was raised to be morally straight with his decisions. Thus, while he is not the symbol of goodness or the purest of hearts, he still has a good sense of right and wrong, though he does acknowledge that there are times where the two overlaps, and will choose the lesser of two evils if given the choice.

Due to his past where he lost his lover, he distanced himself from his peers as a way to protect himself from the feeling of despair when his friends inadvertently perished, be it via the Grimms or other humanoid enemies. Thus, he acts aloof and cold to others to deter them from liking him, or him they, lest history repeats itself.

However, if someone actually managed to become his friend despite his rudeness, they will soon find out that under the facade of rudeness and coldness lies a broken Faunus who can barely hold back his self-doubt and -loathing, and is possibly even vengeful and suicidal towards the Grimms who had robbed him of his lover.

And, if someone actually managed to become his friend, they will find out that he is also extremely protective of those whom he calls his friends, willing to take a literal bullet for them as his way to amend his past failure.

Biography[]

On July 24, Douglas was born to a Grey Wolf Faunus father and Human mother, both of whom are still alive and well. The family lives in the countryside, with rolling prairies and meadows being the usual sight, and fresh crisp air and cool wind gently brushing against his hair and cheek the usual feeling. During his childhood, he spent most of his free time running with his dog, Agartha, and climbing tree, developing his foundation and love for Parkour as he grows. Of course, living so far from civilisation means his family has to protect themselves from the periodical Grimm attacks. These skirmishes gave him early knowledge of the beasts’ weak points and honed his fighting edge for use in the future. Two of these edges that he found most comfortable with were the usage of the Longbows and Polearms. During his time living in the Countryside, it was his father that taught him the aspects of combat and about “Aura.” It was during this time that he unlocks his Aura potential and, with it, his Semblance “Fade.”

Whereas his father taught him of Combat, his mother instead guides him on the Academic path. She was the one who taught him the spoken and written words, about the History of the Grimm, and of Remnant; about the struggles of the Faunus and about the White Fang, though that last topic was rarely touched upon as the parents will always start arguing about the philosophies of the organisation, whether it is right or wrong. Despite this, they still loved each other.

When he was old enough, he enrolled in Signal Combat Academy through his parents’ urging. He was reluctant because even though he has the experience and intellect, he does not have any social skill, and has always been extremely awkward in crowds. Nevertheless, he went to Signal and easily breezed through it. During his time at Signal, he was required to design and create his own personal weapon. Already knowing his strong points, he poured his all into creating the Sentinel's Arc, a hybrid between a Longbow Plasma Caster and a Polearm with an Energy Blade. This weapon became his magnum opus, and is something that he always keep improving on through time and experience.

He graduated Signal soon after, and his stellar grades allowed him to pick his own Academy. He picked Beacon Academy in hopes that it will help shape him into becoming a legendary Hunter. During his second year in Beacon, he finally determined once and for all his preferences in the fields of relationship: He greatly prefers those of the same sex as he, and was even engaged in a relationship before, though it never gone past the hand holding and kissing stage. The reason for this was due to his boyfriend’s death during a Grimm Extermination Mission, where his entire team was surrounded by a larger pack of Grimm than the mission had stated, leading to the team’s decimation. This event left him devastated for months later.

His emotions has now stabilised, though he seemed more aloof and distant than in the past. Perhaps it was his attempt to keep others away from him so he won’t feel the weight of their deaths on his shoulders should the worst comes to pass. In any case, he still mourns his lover’s passing deeply, though he does not outwardly show it. It was also due to his lover’s death that he became overly protective of anyone he calls his “friends” because “[he] was not there for [his] boyfriend when he needed it most,” according to him.

Relationships[]

Even before the loss of his lover, Douglas was quite anti-social due to his social awkwardness. Thus, he has very few friends whom he could count on to watch his back, apart from his own teammates.

Irving Black[]

Douglas met Irving during his second year at Beacon Academy. Despite the former's lack of social skills, it was thanks to Irving's patience and perseverance, alongside his humorous wit, that allowed the relationship between the two boys to blossom. Irving was also the first person whom Douglas had opened himself to and felt any romantic love towards, so it hurts him even more upon the news of Irving's passing during an Extermination Mission gone awry.

Hansa Agrinya[]

On their first year at Beacon Academy, during the Initiation Test, Hansa was the first person whom Douglas laid eyes upon once he had successfully landed in the Emerald Forest. Hansa was hesitant at first, for he had never fought alongside one who fights from afar, and deemed Douglas a coward for choosing such dishonorable method of combat. It took some persuasion, namely Douglas planting a Fire Arrow squarely into the White Taijitu eye as the creature was bearing down on Hansa, who was busy fighting the Black half of the Grimm, to change Hansa's mind on Douglas's honour. Despite the shaky relationship at the start of their career, the two quickly grew to rely on each others as time goes on.

Rufus Jameson Clarke[]

To Douglas, Rufus was a dear childhood friend whom he shared an unbreakable bond with. During their youth, the two boys oftentimes daydreamed about the many adventures they would have when they become Hunters, Vanquishers of all that is Evil. Sometimes, they even had mock battles, where Rufus dressed up as a Knight Errant and Douglas as his trusty Ranger friend and take on Douglas's family dog, Agartha, the poor girl. However, when asked later on, Douglas would say that while it was true that they were childhood friends, there were times when he viewed Rufus as a hyperactive little brother he never had, despite the constant pouting and growling the aforementioned Rufus gave whenever Douglas teased him about being a little brother. The fact that Rufus is so short does not help his case, either.

Gris Dubois[]

Douglas first met Gris when the two boys were still attending Signal Academy, specifically during Engineering class, when the two wear learning the ins and outs of weaponsmithing. While Douglas had some troubles with a couple of the finer points of the course, Gris had took to the course like a fish to water. It was actually with Gris's help that Douglas was able to create his Sentinel's Arc just the way he wanted, and a little bit more. It was due to this that when Douglas met the Atlesian boy again, he immediately ask to be the latter's teammate. The rest is history.

Weapons[]

The Sentinel's Arc[]

The Arc is a trick weapon, and is made entirely of a durable metallic alloy that can withstand intense heat and repeated abuse. It is heavily tech and Dust based. The weapon generally uses Powdered Dust Vials as a secondary power source, incorporating the Dust’s effects at the same time. However, if there is no Powdered Dust Vials available, the weapon can accept unprocessed Dust Crystals in a pinch at a much reduced effect.

The weapon is not upgraded until much later in Douglas's life, once he learnt the technical know-how and gained the materials to upgrade it. The time when this is feasible is around age 40 or more.

Weapon Derivation

Longbow Plasma Caster

The Ranged Form is a dark metallic grey and streamlined longbow that is segmented into three parts: The longer upper limb and shorter lower limb, and the Handle which is also hollow to be able to receive small tubes of Dust as batteries for the elementals. When the limbs are locked in place, the weapon siphons an insignificant amount of the user's Aura in order to power up the bow, creating an energy “string” between the tips of the limbs, completing the bow.

Because this is a plasma caster bow, there is no need for a quiver and arrows, as every time the string is fully pulled back, the arrow is formed with the respective Dust element charged in the projectile. If there is no Dust charges presented, then the arrow is purely plasma, which deals innate Puncture Damage. When Dust is used, each Dust Vials would contain up to three charges unless stated otherwise, or only one charge if the Crystal was used instead. Additionally, Crystals cannot use the Upgraded Arc's functions.

Dust Changes:

  • Red (Fire):

Arrows take on a red tint and gained the ability to burn unprotected flesh or start a fire. Once upgraded, the bow is able to consume all three charges from the Dust Tube to form one explosive plasma arrow. In this state, the plasma arrow seems highly unstable, with hissing and popping sounds accompanying the already red tinted projectile.

  • Light Blue (Ice):

Arrows take on a white tint with frosts emanating from the arrow itself and gained the ability to freeze the ground and the enemies. Upgraded bow make arrows that were shot at the ground leaves the ground dry, but create a patch of Frost element that slow people and beasts' movements.

  • Light Brown (Earth):

Arrows take on a brownish tint and gained the ability to create earthen barriers if shot at the ground, or immobilise Grimms and enemies if shot at them. Upon upgrading, the user can expend all three charges to create a deadly heavy arrow. While the arrow becomes much slower and, as the name suggested, heavier than before, the impact damage of the projectile became even stronger. If something was hit by this heavy arrow, unless they are heavy in mass, they will be flung quite far away.

  • White (Wind):

Arrows take on a light green tint, gained faster flight speed, and the draw weight was lessened by half the usual amount, allowing a form of rapid firing of arrows. Upon upgrading, the user can expend all three charges to create a strong blast of wind where the arrow struck. This blast of wind does not do any real damage, but instead used to disorient organic fighters and Grimms.

  • Yellow (Lightning):

Arrows do not change in colour, but have electric sparks surrounding the arrows itself. The arrows gain the ability to chain shock beast and humans alike, and upgraded bow allows the user to expend all three charges and release an EMP Shockwave that temporarily disable robots, weapons, and disorient humans and beasts. Trade off is it deals almost no damage, meaning it is a Crowd Control Dust.

  • Light Grey (Steam):

Arrows take on a grey looking colour with some image distortion surrounding the arrows, imitating a mirage. These arrows can be shot at the ground to disperse into a mid-sized cloud of steam, blocking the vision; or at the enemies, scalding them like hot water. Upgraded bow fine tunes the steam cloud into a mirage, hiding all who enters the cloud from anyone from the other side at the cost of using all three charges.

  • Black (Gravity):

The arrow adopts a purplish, black hue, and the image around the arrow seems to slightly warps as light seems to bounce off the arrow’s surface. Once fired, the arrow creates a medium sized patch of anti-gravity well, which cancels all forces enacted upon it for a set amount of time; perfect for the landing strategy. Once upgraded, the amount of Dust used could then be fine-tuned to five charges, where using one charge will allow the creation of a magnetic levitation patch, allowing hastened transportation; whereas if the user used all five charges, they will create a miniature Black Hole for a few seconds, pulling anything and everything within range towards it. Despite being a Black Hole, however, it does not cause spaghettification or injure those caught in the event horizon.

Weapon Derivation

Plasma Bladed Polearm

The weapon is a trick weapon, and is made entirely of metallic alloys that can withstand intense heat and damage. It is heavily tech and dust based.

The Aura fueled “String” seemingly snapped and dissipates, releasing the tension from the arms, letting them snap straight into a staff made of the metal alloy. At the top of the longer arm, a thin plasma blade that is about one foot long protrudes out of the tip. The staff itself deals impact damage, whilst the plasma blade deals slash based damage. If the User's Aura fell below a certain threshold, the weapon's safeties will kick in, and the plasma blade will disappear soon after as it used the last of the Auric energy.

Dust Changes:

  • Red (Fire):

The blade shimmers red and heat seems to emanate from the weapon itself. Like the bow, whenever the Dust is activated, the plasma blade will burn and cauterise unprotected flesh, and can even melt an Atlesian Knight's Armours once upgraded.

  • Light Blue (Ice):

The blade seems to become transparent, like glass, and emanates a frosty chill. Whenever the Dust was used, the plasma blade gains the ability to slow the struck enemies through its freezing chill. Upgraded weapon allows this chill to go stick on the enemies for a longer period of time by clinging on their clothing and armour, or fur if it was the Grimm.

  • White (Wind):

The blade takes on a light green tint and lessens the weapons weight by half the original weight. This allows the weapon to be used at a faster rate, increasing the attack speed. Once upgraded, whenever a blow was blocked by the weapon, the offending weapon will be blown back by a concentrated blast of wind. This effect lasts only for 20 seconds for the normal version, and 10 seconds for the upgraded version. (4 - 2 fast paced RP posts, respectively.)

  • Light Brown(Earth):

The metallic alloy shaft became caked with dirt and moss, and almost look like it was rusted. However, unlike its frail and brittle appearance, the shaft was reinforced by the minerals within the Earth. However, this also make the weapon thrice heavier. After being upgraded, this will remove the rust and dirt, revealing a beautiful golden finish, and allow the weapon to function like heavy weapons at only a quarter of the weight increase. This effect lasts for 30 seconds on normal mode, and 15 seconds on upgraded mode. (5 - 3 fast paced RP posts, respectively.)

  • Yellow (Lightning):

The blade takes on a golden glow with sparks of electricity periodically emanating from it. It deal less damage than usual, but gain the ability to shock and incapacitate the enemies, and is highly effective against synthetic enemies. Upgraded version allow the user to emit a small sized EMP blast whenever a parry is achieved.

  • Light Grey (Steam):

The blade takes on a greyish energy glow, and emanates steam around the blade itself. Every time the Dust was used, the blade gains the ability to scald the enemies that it hits and, with the upgraded version, will be able to create a mirror image of the user via mirage, confusing the opponent. Functions similarly like Blake Belladonna's basic version of her Semblance.

  • Black (Gravity):

The blade takes on a purplish, blackish hue, and seems to warp he image surrounding it. Like the Bow counterpart, this Dust is mainly used for re-positioning, as it allows the user to “draw a path” in the air. The weapon can be upgraded so that once the blade struck someone or something, the affected part that was struck will become afflicted with Heavy for several seconds (1 RP post), slowing movements.

Personalised Hunting Knife[]

Apart from his Primary Weapon, the Arc, Douglas had also crafted a hunting knife from the excess materials he had used to created the Bow / Tonbogiri Hybrid. While the knife cannot use Dust or cast Plasma like its elder brother, it compensated by having an incredibly sharp edge; and due to his usage of the alloy in the making of the knife, the weapon itself was extremely durable, and could hold its sharpness and shape even after repeated abuse.

The weapon is sheathed within a metallic sheathe of the same metallic alloy, and placed on his lower back, with the handle of the knife pointing out from his right side.

Semblance[]

  • Fade:

When he expended a small portion of his Aura to activate Fade, his body seems to “fade” from view for up to a minute. The further the viewer is from him, the more potent Fade is, making it a rudimentary form of invisibility; thus, if he moves quickly or engages in aggressive actions, the Semblance will flicker or even fail, revealing his position. Upon closer inspection, Fade takes the form of tendrils of grey smoke rising from his feet and dissipates a few inches taller from his upright ears.

After time skip, Douglas’s grasp on the Semblance’s control now allows him to lessen the amount of Aura used to upkeep the “cloaking” effect almost by ¾ of its usual amount. Not only that, he can also generate a two metres radius circle of this cloaking smoke, giving all allies within range the cloak for one minute, all while disorienting any enemies caught within the blast.

Abilities[]

  • Expert Longbowman
    • Due to years of hunting animals using bow and arrows back home, alongside his own training in archery, Douglas now possess the ability to spot targets from a good distance away, along with possessing a strong upper-body strength that comes with a life-time of using a heavy longbow.
  • Expert Polearm User
    • Aside from his proficiency in using Longbows, Douglas had also invested a lot of time in mastering the use of the polearm. This allows him to properly deflect and parry light (knives, shortswords, etc..) and medium (longswords, other polearms, etc...) weapons. Other than that, deft control of his weapon allows him to seemingly "weave" his polearm, or even extend the reach of the weapon.
  • Innate Low-Light Vision
    • As a Wolf Faunus, Douglas had an innate low-light vision. However, as the name suggested, the "ability" required some small amount of light in order for it to even work, making it virtually useless in pitch-black conditions. Not only that, but Douglas's sight wil be severely reduced to medium / close range, and he can only see in light grey and black tones as light and dark, respectively.
  • Accute Hearing Sense
    • As a Wolf Faunus who possess the animal ears, Douglas's sense of hearing is almost as, if not as accute as that of a Wolf's.
  • Traceur's
    • Mentality
      • Due to his experience as a Traceur, Douglas instinctively formulate a route that can get him from one point to another without expending too much stamina. This helps him immensely due to his job as a "Sniper," where he is required to move to a better vantage point should he need to.
    • Vitality
      • Because he had ran for almost all his life, his Cardiovascular Systems is much healthier than that of a normal person, even by Huntsmen standards. Thus, he can recover his breath much faster after running and climbing for a while.

Trivia[]

  •     Douglas came from many Roots in the form of Dubhglas, with Old Gaelic and Old Scottish meaning "Dark Water," and Old Irish meaning "Black and Grey."
  •     Merle, pronounced "Mer-Lae", was inspired by the Arthurian Legend's Wizard "Merlin."
  •     The character was originally named "Jonathan Arthur Wulfgar," but due to the colour naming convention, the writer had to use his second character's name, which has a colour for a first name, coincidentally.
  •     The weapons are based upon the Daikyu and Tonbo from the video game Warframe. For those who don't know what Warframe is, I'll say this: "Cyborg Ninjas in Space."
  •     Rinmaru Games will not allow the removal of the base ears, so please avert your eyes from the fact that Douglas has 2 pair of ears. By canon, he only has the Wolf Ears on top of his head.
