Ametihtia Orestes (pronounced Ah-meh-tith-tee-ah Or-est), preferably called by her concert alias "Amy," is the fourth Huntress of Team SYRA who transferred to Beacon Academy from Sanctum. She wields a pair of axe-shotgun with taser capacities and is regarded as the heavy-hitter and daredevil of her team.

Appearance[]

  • General Looks

Ametihtia is a thin, freckled teenager with dull blue eyes and curly brown hair with blonde tips. She has a non-athletic physique, which the exception of her legs, and is always seen smiling. She is quite light without her weapons and jacket, and is of average height-- in comparison to the rest of her team, she appears the least suited for battle. In terms of accessories, she has dark purple paint on her nails and a two-beaded necklace; it is assumed she wears earring like her teammates, but her shoulder-length hair always covers her ears.

  • Huntress Attire ("Bewitching Star")
Amymodel

Model version of Amy based on the template provided in the Velvet design contest.

Amy’s usual outfit is perhaps the most casual of the team and is designed for events at night clubs and concerts. She wears two layers of purple on top that aren’t long enough to cover her waist: the top layer is a darker shade and is full of holes while the lower layer is a short-sleeve shirt that splits at the bottom. The umber shorts with short brown fur covering the ends also connects to a pair of lavender loops used to secure her weapons (once the blades are joined on one side, the slit between the two cannons of the shotguns can be used to slide onto the fabric). The belt involves metal rings with intertwined leather strips.

The black coat Amy always wears bears her emblem on the back, and features messy gray felt strips on the ends of the sleeves and coattails. When closed, 6 amethyst-like buttons will be seen in the front. Gray lines run down the sleeves, which have holes on top that are closed with knots. Each side has 4 holes; the first starting from the shoulder and the last ending at the elbow. The inside of the coat, which contains extra shotgun rounds, is a dull purple, which matches the boots’ main color.

Amy’s boots have similar gray felt on the rims, but has a bright purple frill and lacing on the inside, which matches her shirts. The outer sides of the shoes show the emblem at the heel, which contains metal visible from the bottom. Overall her outfit has no metal chunks of armor nor any significant gems besides the ones on the hilt of her weapons.

  • School Attire

Despite being a rebel, Amy still wears the white shirt, black coat, and plaid skirt that is included in the Beacon uniform. However, the jacket is always seen open, and past that is missing the brown corset (or one that is about to fall off) and red ribbon (or a ribbon that is not even tied). Also, her shoes are always the boots from her Huntress outfit, to the surprise of others--maybe she just wants to stand out, others say.

Her necklace and earrings (assumed to be studs and a ring for each ear), are rarely seen, as the former is covered by the shirt, and the latter by her messy hair.

  • Nightwear

More often than not, she is seen with a purplish shirt that reads some band name (or her own name); the shirt has long sleeves. Unlike how others would expect, she also wears long pants, which are usually sweatpants of a darker color. Her necklace is visible, but her earrings remain unseen with her curly hair, which may be less even than the mornings and afternoons, since Amy is a morning person with her showers and brushing.

  • Voice Quality

Amy's voice is distinct---even if she tries to imitate other accents or sings, anyone who heard her speak will recognize it from afar. She tends to shout; her whispering voice, which seem audible to anyone despite her efforts, sounds like threatening more than sharing secrets.

Personality[]

Original Concept Artwork

Those that have met Nora Valkyrie perhaps assume Amy is her long lost sister after the first impression. Amy strives to advertise herself as odd, and will act and speak in the strangest and craziest manners possible, to creep out and/or humor others. She seems intent on being a rebel in every fashion; as soon as the word “conform” pops up, she will immediately go against the crowd without a moment’s hesitation. Being the most social of Team SYRA, she has friends of all walks as well as haters of all sorts-- and, she will often announce, loves them all. She has a strong affinity for creepy things and hates anything overly emotional.

Amy often whips up nicknames for those she believes she will come to like, and will blindly side with them in whatever argument. Most don’t see her as one to be trusted due to her loud and audacious nature, but only the people who tolerate her, her real friends, will come to understand that she can be honest and could keep any secret until the grave. However, when it comes to studies, she is the least dependable with her irresponsible characteristics and extreme laziness. Plus, she would spend every effort trying to distract others from work. If she finally forces herself to concentrate, she would shoo everyone else away and become extremely irritable when disrupted. Her concentration, strangely, appears effective so far.

Even if her behavior drives everyone else insane, Amy is not sadistic (though she may claim she is just for laughs) and will stop her teasing when it is obvious that her actions caused actual pain to others. She is well-intentioned in her jokes and pranks--- but often times remains oblivious to the consequences they have on her peers. When confronted seriously, she will apologize forefront and will make attempts to consolidate, perhaps by repeating herself on a lesser extremity.

When her opinions and views are concerned, Amy guards them strongly, even when she is uninformed. In the case of her well-being and happiness, she may become selfish and ignorant of others, yet not realize until it has been pointed out.

In battle, Amy’s wild side from the concerts and parties remains strong. Typically she will try to tease her enemies to death, even when everyone else is scared and running. Her motivation for being a Huntress however, is along the lines of “I wanna be awesome,” which is the facade she has to hide her angst towards her family life.

Weapons[]

Amyyrbk

Amy wearing Beacon's uniform, or at least trying to.

Amy named her weapon “Spark and Violetta,” perhaps being her “unique” take on Jack and Jill. The original creator, her stepfather, named them the "Sparkling Violets." The pair of guns are collectively seen as MAGS (Mountain Axes Galvanistic Shotguns). The heavy shotguns connected with a chain each have an over-sized purple barrel, which is filled ammo infused with lightning-elemental dust powder.

Since Amy usually doesn’t carry much ammo due to its weight, (despite being the only member of the team to have gun capabilities) she is frugal with her gunshots, which shoot two bullets at once for heavy damage-- each barrel/gun carries around 20 bullets. Any spares, if she remembers to carry any, will be inside her coat. The rate at which the guns shoot is quite slow, taking a few seconds between each shot (with recoil as well).

While the first trigger shoots the shotgun, the second trigger on the guns allows for the axes to spin in full circles according to the purple ring around the large barrel, the trigger is sensitive and the speed of the spin can be as fast as an egg beater. The user cannot shoot and spin at the same time, with the risk of damaging the remaining bullets inside as they are loaded.

The shape of the axes on the guns can be controlled by a 4-position switch on the back of the handle, where the safety is. Normally Amy keeps one side closed (circle shape) and the other side open (pickaxe shape), which are the 2nd and 3rd positions on the switch. If she’s storing the weapon, she can use the first position on the switch, which causes the two blades of each axe’s closed/circle shape to come together to one side. The fourth position causes the blades already in pickaxe form to twist and form an “s” shape from above; this combined with the spinning function creates a propeller-blade weapon-- this can make a small shield from small projectiles, but overall Spark and Violetta are not defensive weapons.

Spark and Violetta

A quick sketch of Spark and Violetta's 4 forms.

The taser function can be drawn from contact with an outside electrical source, which Amy can produce by shooting at a nearby spot with the electric dust-filled ammo. (The electrical current can travel through the chain or Amy’s body, this is explained further in Abilities.)

Amy has been known to throw one side of her weapon for various reasons: she could throw one axe (in pickaxe or propeller shape) while holding the cannon of the shotgun of the other axe (in closed shape) as an attack, or throw an axe so that the chain will attach to a tree ligament or metal beam, creating a temporary swing. At the same time in either, she can still shoot from the gun that is still in her hand.

Note that the chain can be replaced with longer versions. The length depends on the kind of battle Amy anticipates, short chains are useful in single, arena-based matches, while longer chains are helpful in mobility in large environments with many opponents.

Abilities and Stats[]

Here they come by bloodyrosalia-d7b3usb (2)

A group picture featuring Amy that was a birthday gift for the person the character was based off of.

Her semblance of conductivity has been called by many names, such as “Powerhouse,” “Lightning Rod” and “Hardwired,” which aren’t all accurate. Her friends describe her semblance by the simple title “Conductor.” Amy is granted no offensive power from her immunity to electrical shock, but she can take advantage of her skin being able to carry strong currents to enhance her weapon. Although she is unharmed by tasers and lightning strikes, blasts that have electrical backing will still bring damage and blow her back. Fires from lightning will still burn her.

Regardless of how she obtains it, Amy can carry any strength of electric with her, usually creating a current through her weapon while doing so, which gives her a blue to purple glow. The charges will weaken every time she makes a hit, either with her weapon, or her initially weak kicks (metal heels) and punches (bare hands). Amy is not able to shoot lightning out of her hands, as much as she would like to. However, she is able to absorb some electrical attacks and spells, which provides some defense, assuming the enemy will not change strategies.

The strength of the current and the duration she holds onto it will determine how fast her strength drains, and it does so faster than she acts of it. She prefers storing electric only when she finds it useful, and often stops the charges manually (usually by stabbing her axes, heels, or hands into the ground first), which may leave leftover static in her hair and clothes, to prevent exhausting herself.

Quick Stats (max is 5)
Aura 5 Exceptional. Amy's aura the strongest on her team-- according to her comrades, who may be mistaking it for her hyperactivity.
Strength 5 Exceptional. Her own physical strength is little, but the damage her weapons cause are no laughing matter.
Defense 2 Below Par. Like the rest of her team, Amy cannot sustain much damage from attacks, even with her hyper nature. She is reliant on her aura and her teammates to cover for this flaw.
Speed 2 Below Par. Amy is indeed the slowest member, as she is carrying the heaviest weapons on the team and is wearing a somewhat bulky coat. Her shorter movements are rather swift, however.
Stealth 1 Poor. Within a few seconds of hiding and she'll make noise...Guaranteed.
Experience 2 Below Par. Amy perhaps had the least battles out of everyone on the team and spends more time doing recreational things than actually pursuing her studies as a Huntress.
Knowledge 3 Average. Although she isn't ahead in academics, Amy's background in military paraphernalia makes up for what she lacks. She also copes well in urban areas with her abilities to map out streets quickly.
Charisma 5 Exceptional. She's the most enthusiastic of the team, despite the fact that not everyone likes her cheers when times get rough...

Detailed statistics can be found on the Team SYRA: Statistics page.

Amy's overall fighting style, is unpredictable. She doesn't often use her full range of abilities (semblance and propeller-shape function of her axes) and will instead taunt and evade her enemies for a while-- which is somewhat strategic, at least for her teammates, since she is forcing the enemies to reveal their range of attacks.

Due to her semblance and preferences, she is toughest to beat in metal-based or urban environments. If she finds other weapons to use first before her own, she will try to utilize them to satisfy her eagerness to have fun.

Backstory[]

Early Childhood[]

Ametihtia was born in a small town within the Mistral region as the second child of a middle-class family. Her mother, whose parents were dust miners and explosives experts, was discriminatory and supported persecution of the Faunus, which was a perspective the elder sister grew up with as well. The younger daughter spent more time with the equivocal father, who was a robot mechanic, and enjoyed the less stricter leash he had on her whereabouts. Ametihtia, whose sister was guaranteed work as a secretary for a local security official, disappointed her parents by declaring that her dream was to start a band with her neighborhood friends.

At the same time, the White Fang’s revolution caused a severe setback in the mother’s line of work, which was managing the security of a Schnee dust mine. She grew increasingly intolerable with her younger daughter, who mingled with Faunuses and neglected school. However, at the realization that her husband’s military-grade designs have secretly been distributed to the White Fang, she split the family with a divorce. The husband, who fled with the attention she caused, is no longer in contact. Ametihtia, who internally admired her father and the White Fang’s efforts, was dragged by her mother to larger city, and later forced to enroll to Sanctum.

Tyrionandamy

Amy and her older stepbrother, Tyrion Murex.

The Second Family[]

The teenager, who became one of the weakest students at the training school, constantly tried to find an escape from her new family life-- which was her mother marrying another man.

The stepfather, a weapon engineer, had his son, one of the high-caliber students at Sanctum, train his stepdaughter. He also designed a similar weapon for Ametihtia, so she could follow his son’s footsteps, much to the her annoyance. (The stepfather, like the parent before him, contributed to the teenager's knowledge of military equipment, but she now treats the subject with distaste compared to before with her biological father.)

By the age of 16, Ametihtia lived a double life: At daytime she was lazily attending school and then getting rough training lessons from her somewhat egotistic stepbrother, Tyrion. At night, she was starting a secret singing career at local discos and nightclubs, all under an alias, “Amy.”

Her stepbrother was a contender of the Mistral Regional Tournaments, and won in the top twenty his first two years, with the third year being in the top ten. To heighten his ego as a good brother, Tyrion made sure Amy made past the elimination rounds on his 4th year (her 3rd year). After that point, the siblings were then coincidentally designated to face each other. The victor, by extreme luck of a thunderstorm, was the younger sister; the defeat, although improving her notoriety as a pop-star and competitor, ruined her relationship with her family.

TimeskipA

Amy, a year after Beacon's fall. Despite her eager pursuit of stardom, Amy, relying on only her semblance to get by street life, slowly finds curious events threatening the stability of Mistral.

Two Siblings in Vale[]

Tyrion graduated to attend Beacon Academy, despite his embarrassment, and her father began working with international military forces, which were intent on stopping the revolts of the White Fang. Amy’s father arranged for her to move to Vale and enroll in Beacon as well; he used his status and Amy’s publicized defeat of Tyrion to make the admissions process smooth. The daughter, relieved to be free from her family back at Mistral, seeks to find opportunities to further her music career rather than her studies as a Huntress.

During one of her first performances in Vale as a guest/backup singer, Amy encountered a Faunus named Ecru, who would later become a classmate on another team, BERL. Amy, who partnered with Yulon during initiation and became the fourth member of SYRA, continued to expand her network of friends (and fans?) during the first year.

The End of Beacon[]

In between the disasters that fell the academy, Amy's older brother was severely injured for attempting to fight off invading Grimm. While fleeing with her team, she brought along the sibling she detested, slowly coming to realize that his intentions are not purely selfish.

SYRA's leader, Saphyr, surprisingly left the team to go into hiding from her family with the help of BERL's leader. Amy, however, prevented Yulon from departing alone for Atlas for her family, as it became evident that the only Xueshan in danger was Yulon herself. Amy, still distraught by the tragedy, continues to look over her brother while her teammates as well as the remnants of Team BERL plan how to take both themselves and their leaders to another nation.

Relationships[]

Relatives[]

  • Amy practically ignores the existence of her stepfather, who also seems disinterested in interacting with his unorthodox stepdaughter. The mother's relationship with the daughter is perhaps just as poor-- Amy only seems to interact with her if her biological father was the topic.
  • As much as Amy hates her family, Tyrion is "on a fine line between hate and really dislike." She sees her brother as an arrogant human being, despite the fact that he is well-received in general. She does want to respect him for what he's done for her, even if becoming a Huntress was never her idea. She would, however, ignore him if they were to run into each other at Beacon.

Teammates[]

FADESideMistral

A section of the Semblance of Malice piece featuring Saphyr's and Amy's side of the story in Mistral. Ecru can be seen beside Amy as her sidekick.

  • Although Sapphyre is reluctant to follow Amy's crazy schemes, Amy treats Saf like her best friend-- and out of the many friendships she has, this is the only time where the idea of "best friends" is mutual. The two may not fight as cohesively, but talk and act like they're sisters. As daughters that both feel misguided by their families, the pair are able to talk about their secrets and often watch out for one another when others turn against one of them or when one gets upset.
  • Amy adores Yulon the most, despite knowing that the heiress despises her mannerisms. She is particularly talkative with "Yolo" around, simply because Yulon is the only teammate that hasn't truly opened up to her. The two fight rather well as a pair, minus the fact that Amy will taunt the enemy twice as often, to the irritation of her partner. There is rarely conversation between them other than what's akin to "you should improve your behavior and stop being a nuisance" from Yulon.
  • Ragla is not fond of Amy's childish antics, but sometimes finds humor in her acts. Although their mindsets are completely the opposite (irrational vs rational), the two are capable of fighting alongside each other. "Rae Rae," a nickname for Ragla that Saf initially thought of, finds annoyance in Amy's "noisemaker" reputation, but will occasionally team up with her jokes and teasing. Due to Ragla's high tolerance for Amy, the two make compatible teammates.
    Ecruicon

Ecru Squall met Amy before his acceptance into Beacon Academy. The (flying) squirrel Faunus is the second member of Team BERL.

Classmates[]

  • Ecru, a Faunus that Amy first met after one of her concerts (Trailer One), is an acquaintance that later on enrolls in Beacon and joins Team BERL. On their first meeting he led her to one of the rooms he was janitor of; Amy carelessly activated a prototype robot that was inside and later defeated it. Ecru admires Amy's status as a Huntress and seeks to follow it.

Trivia[]

  • Very few call Amy by her full first name, the "few" including her biological father, mother, and stepbrother.
    • The name in its entirety is Greek. The first name means "amethyst," a stone believed to prevent drunkeness. The surname means "one who can conquer mountains."
    • Orestes, in Greek mythology, was the son of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon, and the brother of Electra and Iphigenia. He and his sister Electra avenged the murder of their father by murdering their mother and her lover Aegisthus. It is said that afterwards he was chased by the Furies and driven insane.
      • The only connection made to this reference so far is the inclusion of electricity as one of Amy's quirks. Electra, despite having a similar name to "electric," has no connection to electric historically.
      • The family structure is remarkably similar, albeit the lack of a murder and revenge theme.
  • Other people associated with Amy's background also fit the color-naming convention:
    • Amy's stepbrother, Tyrion Murex, has a first name that alludes to Tyrian purple, which was a dye made from sea snail shells (Murex snails), presumably first developed by the Phoenicians of the Mediterranean Sea. He inherited his last name from the stepfather's last name, which is also Murex.
    • Ecru Squall's first name refers to a shade of white, ecru.
  • This character is based on one of the four friends of BloodyRosalia. This person received the Yang slap-band won from Rooster Teeth's Movie Poster Contest.
    Lattice

    Amy's emblem, "Lattice."

  • Amy's emblem is titled "Lattice," perhaps referring to the shapes of crystal lattices in mineral formation.
    • In chemistry, ionic bonding forms lattices. Perhaps the concept of electricity arose from the concept of cations and anions.
    • The emblem also looks like a marker or target symbol of some kind, which makes sense since Amy is the only true gun-wielder of the team and most like an actual huntsman.
  • This character has been alluded to a Greek myth about a young girl named Amethyste, who received the help of Diana to transform into a gem and avoid the pursuit of Bacchus, the god of wine.
    • Amy's history seems to be similar in that she walked the path of a celebrity to avoid the influence of her parents. The only irony is that she seeks recreation, not peace...which is the flip-side of the myth.
    • Amy's last name, "Orestes," is also the name of the young male protagonist from Aeschylus' play, Euripedes, in which Orestes seeks aid from Athena from the Furies after committing matricide.
