The shine of clarity is nothing compared to the shine of a freshly cleaned diamond though if betrayed the diamond will shatter.

Personality[]

Melanite is a silent girl. Talking is not really her style. Only talking to people who she really trusts. She looks to be a nice girl (which she is), but she is opsessed with shiny things and can have a sly personality. She loves dust crystals because she thinks they look pretty. She feels more comfortable at night. That's when she feels safe. She can not stand betrayers and when she found out someone betrayed her then she will search for that person and punish him/her (not killing). She is on bad terms with the police.

Appearance[]

Melanite is a small girl with medium-long black hair. Her eyes are dark blue in color. She's often seen wearing a sweater mostly a gray one since that's her favorite. Under that sweater she wears a white dress. She wears black stockings with a flower pattern. Her shoes are dark blue ballerina shoes. Most of the time she has her hood on.

Her weapons, called the Serenity Moonshadows, hang on her hips so she can bring them up as fast as possible. These sickle weapons hang on a brown leather belt that is located around her waist.

Backstory[]

Melanite never knew who her parents were, but what she did know that they had abandoned her at young age. She was never alone because she had a partner called Drake. She and Drake began to steal at little local dust shops from time to time and when they got older they started to do it more frequently also in bigger dust shops. Melanite was more out for the crystals because she loved the way they looked while Drake took care of the dust powder. The police was tracking them down, but without succes. Melanite developed feelings for Drake and he was well aware of that, but acted like he didn't noticed. Of course that was his sign to take advantage of her since she'd do everything he'd ask her. On one night Drake proposed to rob one of the biggest places where they make dust, the Schnee dust company.

At first Melanite wasn't really sure about that since that place was overloaded with security. She ultimately declined on the proposal, having doubts about Drake targeting Remnant's highest Dust producer... She left his side and turned herself in to the police, to make amends for what she had done, but not before warning them that the SDC was being targeted... At first the police doubted her warning, but ultimately decided to take her up on that... That night, Drake snuck into the company and began to take the Crystals with ease, but on the wailing of the sirens, he had no one to fall back to, the windows and ceiling too high and the rope already down... Beginning his climb the police storms in and make their way to the crystal storage room, catching Drake attempting his escape halfway through. With tranqs in their pistols, the police shot him on sight, Melanite's warning put to use... with the threat of thieving over, Drake was then arrested and commited guilty for multiple thieveries and sentenced for 20 years... Melanite, now released on account of aiding police and using her own judgment to correct her mistakes, was awarded a medal by the mayor of Vytal... It was then that a huntsman approached her and offered her an application to Beacon Academy... Thinking it over, she originally thought to decline the offer, needing certified training to be accepted, however the huntsman offered an additional bonus to the offer, time to train for him to witness her skills... Now this was something Melanite could not refuse, a chance to train. Taking his offer, her journey began, many days pass and many hours were spent training her speed, arm strength, and stealth... she had already have a sense of Dust Management during her time with Drake but now with her past behind her she can now use this for the greater good... after successfully training in all of these aspects the huntsman finally accepts her for who she is... a former thief turned huntress with a sense of justice, her past left behind beginning anew...

After the Fall of Beacon[]

While living with Eventi and the rest of Team GEMS in the town of Titan, Melanite took up a job, working alongside the miners mining the Dust Crystals from the mineshaft. But one day during her morning shift, she not only mined out fresh light blue Water Dust Crystal, but also some dense iron, perfect for weapon making. Finishing her job for the day she walked back with the dense iron she collected and asked Eventi and Sapphire to help her make something with them and some boots she found. When they asked her what this was for she replied with a cliche line...

"To give me an edge against the Grimm..."

The two agreed in helping her and headed to the blacksmith and began their work... Melanite shared with the two her plans on boots that are able to shoot ballistic knives at high speeds using pressurized water jets from Water Dust Crystals, to which even Eventi complemented on how she was able to figure out the detailed planning. While Eventi worked on forging some of the dense iron into knives and platings for this, Sapphire, after receiving the finished and polished parts, measured out the dimensions of the boots and begins to modify the boots to fit the concept. Melanite began building a internal contraption that utilizes the Water Dust Crystal that, when enough pressure is built up, fires off a knife from the extended steel toes that the knives will load into from the sole, the tube to fill the chamber is long enough to hide underneath the sole of her heel.

Taking 2 days total to incorporate the contraption and the dense iron platings into the boots, the three spend the rest of the project testing the firing process of it, in which the knife loads into the slot exposed at the tip, and by pressing a button hidden where the pig toe would sit inside the boots would trigger the pressurizing process, which after half of a second, the knife fires with a jet of pressurized water, embedding the knife into the wall with 3 inches deep of piercing force. Eventi designates this as the Dynamic Knife Launching Boots, or DKBL for short, and Melanite gives them a name that sounds cool to mix with a new attack method of closing in with kicks/kick-firing the knives, and one stuck into her head.

"Cuchillo de Pirena... It means "Leg Knife" in Spanish..." she said. "That sounds lovely and deadly." complimented Sapphire.

With her new secondary weapon, she hopes to adapt more in combat in addition to her opening up to others and living for a brighter future alongside her friends.

Weapons[]

Primary Weapon - Serenity Moonshadows[]

BLADE zbrush textured

Melanite's Primary weapons are called the Serenity Moonshadows. It has a form of a sickle, but the blades are bigger than a normal one. This blade is attached on a chain that is in the handle of the weapons. This way can the user increase his/her reach with the weapons. The chain can have electricity from dust that's inside the handle. The electricity is not only on the chain but also on the main blade. A scar will suffice to stun the enemy although this only happens 45% of the time. This chance is balanced, but there still needs to be caution since the enemy might not be stunned.  On the back of the handle is also a little moon-shaped blade.

Secondary Weapon - Cuchillo de Pierna[]

Her secondary weapon comes in the form of an innocently pair of boots with extended steel toes, but in actuality, they can fire off sharp knives forged out of dense iron using an internal contraption that Melanite made herself using what she had learned from watching Eventi work machinery. The contraption is hidden within the boots' bottom sole with a hidden compartment in the back of the boots housing a Water Dust Crystal, which when a button located in the inside of the boot is pressed, sends pressurized water into the extended steel toe's chamber after loading up a knife a

nd fires it off from a slot on the front.  Melanite can further enhance the power discharged by performing certain kick attacks, namely ones that spreads her leg out into sweeping motions, like a Roundhouse Kick. This motion, in turn, applies additional speed to the knife that's fired off for more penetration. Their designation is DKLB, Dynamic Knife Launching Boots, their name, Cuchillo de Pierna, these boots set in stone Melanite's resolve to protect her partner Garnet as well as her friends, whether near or far.

Semblance - Shadow Bind[]

While undergoing personal training to adapt her fighting style in mixing ranges with her Serenity Moonshadows and Cuchillo de Pierna against high mobility training dummies set at different ranges, her past involving her former partner Drake began to resurface within her mind, about him yelling and threatening to murder Melanite and her friends once he breaks out of jail. However, admist the yelling and the death threats, Garnet, Eventi, and Sapphire appeared and comforted her, telling her to forget her past and live for a brighter future, and this triggered something deep within her, a power that's hers and hers alone, something that Drake knows nothing about. Opening her eyes to the dummies in front of her, she kneeled down and opened the chamber of her Cucillo de Pierna, loaded knife in place, she softly places her finger on top of it, placing a mark on the knife's bottom.

Looking up to the sky noticing the wind change and her hair turning black like melanite ore and having a sheen, she high-kicks the air, firing off the marked knife high into the air, the wind turning the knife over pointed down enough where it can land inside one of the dummie's shadow, and sure enough, the knife came back down and struck the dummy's shadow to which she notices the gears that allow it to move around her at high speeds jammed up, but not by mechanical failure. She soon realized that this power had the ability to pin her target's shadow and restrict their movement, but wears off after a minute. Taking this opportunity to strike the dummies, she strikes them at all three ranges, severing them from the posts. Looking up to the sky as the raindrops hit her cheeks, she speaks...

"Drake... the next time I see you... If I ever see you... I won't be alone anymore...

Shadow Bind is a Movement Restrictor-type Semblance that first must be prepped before it can be used. To activate, Melanite must first mark one of her knives with a symbol, then calculate the firing trajectory her knife will fly on high in the sky. Once fired and successively strikes the target's shadow, the target is unable to move for a full minute, more than enough time for Melanite to close in to deliver blow after blow between her weapons. This however comes with the price of using up 10% of her Total Aura every time she marks, fires, and binds her target's shadow. This forces Melanite to be more cautious about the ongoing battle and is more suited in Team-based Battles.

Vehicles[]

Type M "Sombra"[]

Type M "Sombra" is a cross between robotics and motorcycle technologies.  This robotic motorcycle was not created by Melanite alone... She got some help of her teammate Garnet , who is talented in working with motorcycles since he has his own, and her other teammate Eventi. And Aidan is the one who helped Eventi creating the DPSU. The Type M "Sombra" has 2 modes, 2 forms of riding, and can only respond to Melanite's voice.  This serves as Melanite's main method of ground transport.

Battery Mode[]

This mode allows the motorcycle to run on a special battery that Eventi made using 4 "Electric" Dust Crystals and a heat-proof metal container .

Engine Mode[]

Much like the DPSU, this mode allows the motorcycle to run on its engine, which is powered by liquid Dust.  Its also much faster than Battery Mode

Spread Legs Form:[]

This is one of Sombra's forms, the two legs of the motorcycle form the usual shape of a motorcycle, allowing it to move a lot faster on the ground.

Standing Form[]

This form of Sombra gives Melanite a much better view height by shifting its legs to mimic the form of a humanoid robot.  Although slower than Spread Legs Form, it has better manuverability.

Creator's Notes []

  • Melanite is the black variety of the rare andradite garnet. It is sometimes known titanian andradite.
  • The quote was made up by Yang Long.
  • The Serenity Moonshadows are inspired by Diana's cresent blade of League of Legends, and Kratos's Blades of Exile.
  • The concept of the Cucillo de Pierna, Melanite's secondary weapon was discussed between current OC owner RWBYfan95 and fellow OC Creator Phazefox. The idea was first planned to be Throwing Knives, but soon evolved into boots that can fire ballistic knives. The internal workings was pitched originally as using Fire Dust to heat the knive's blade, Wind Dust to propel the blade out of the chamber, and Water Dust to cool the casing, but it was later scrapped in favor of using only Water Dust to propel the knives using pressurized water.
  • The movement binding effect of her Semblance, Shadow Bind, is inspired from the anime "Symphogear" where Symphogear User, Tsubasa Kazanari throws a throwing dagger at her target's shadow, causing them be restrained from any physical movement until the dagger that binded it is pryed off or is destroyed.
  • The Semblance's sign of activation, the black and sheening hair color, is a reference to the anime Houseki no Kuni in which the 28 Gemstones, represented as academy women, having sheening haircolor that matches the color of their corresponding Gemstone.
  • The name "Cucillo de Pierna" is derived from the Spanish meaning "leg knife" corresponding to Melanite's method of firing off throwing knives from her boots, a term called a "kick-gun".
