Illyria is a location in Team OPRA's Story. It is an island located off of the south east coast of Sannas in vicinity to Vale. It was founded after the great war by Vale soldiers during an expedition and was re-purposed into a refugee location before gaining independency in the following years. It is the homeland of Ophelia Demoiselle and is the main setting of Volume 4.

Summary

Illyria is a medium sized Island in south-east sannas close to the city of Vale, having been founded by their soldiers during the later half of the great war. It is the home island of Ophelia Demoiselle and several other characters in Team OPRA's Story. The Island has many towns and villages, as well as a main city merely named The Capital. It's current Prime Minister is Henrietta Delacroix and the current commander of the military is Orsino Gladio.

About

Geography/Climate:

Illyria is a medium-sized island just off the coast of south Sannas, south east of the kingdom of Vale. Because of this relation, Illyria geographically shares similarities with Vale. At the west side of the island stands the capital city. At the east of the Capital city sits the Birnam forest, dividing the city from the country plains where the farms and agriculture district of Illyria reside. In the center of the capital city resides the capital parliament building, located on a hill above the buildings surrounding it. The capital city of Illyria is located west of the island, built on a large riverbed. Because of this, rivers run through the cities.

In the summer and spring seasons, Illyria has sticky muggy summers, and in the winter times Illyria will receive the snowy weather from vale and cold southern winds from the south lands. Because of the similar seasons with the region/kingdom of Vale, Illyria is able to grow ample crops and support various livestock which is part of their economic exportation.

Economy:

Illyria bolsters a prospering economy despite its non-kingdom status. Because of its numerous trade relations with the other kingdoms and nations of Remnant, Illyria is able to easily support itself as an independent nation. Despite this economic stability however, Illyria suffers from a growing gap in the classes, the wealthy being able to attain their riches while those in the lower class suffer and struggle to keep up with economic demands. These are apparent lingering effects of the wealth hoarding that was part of the siege that occurred many years ago.

Illyria's main exports are dairy, eggs, meat, wine, seafood, pearls, oranges, wooden prosthetics and cigars.

Education:

Illyria supports a multitude of different academies and schools for whatever aspiring field someone wants to strive in. After graduation from high school, Students can choose to further study in a specific field in Arts, Sciences, Mathematics, Politics, Agriculture, Business, Combat and Defence. While not having a proper huntsman academy of their own, also provides beginners huntsman education for young teenagers age 13-16 who are looking to become hunters with Arden Academy. Arden Academy allows for students to begin their hunter studies and provides resources to conduct both the written and practical exams for admittance into the Huntsman academies around Remnant as well as provide transcripts to the academies. Overall Illyria has been heralded for its education practices.

Culture

• Political: A democratic socialist nation, Illyrians possess a strong anti-monarchy viewpoint and believes that a nation should be one where everyone has a say. Because of this, the entire governing body of Illyria is picked by the citizens of the country to represent the land in a highly diverse cabinet of like-minded politicians. The current elected Prime Minister of Illyria is Henrietta Delacroix, 20th prime minister of Illyria and leader of the Illyrian Democratic Party (IDP). The Prime Minister of Illyria will usually serve a 4 year term before the next PM is elected through island-wide voting. While Illyria has a like minded political culture, the country itself is not without different parties on the political spectrum. With the growing wealth gap, the Illyrian Labour Party (ILP) has been created to bring more attention to the rights of low-income working class citizens and families and aims to speed up the process of closing this wealth gap.
• Social: Illyria is a society that while united by an artistically rich history and culture, is also currently divided between the wealthy and the lower class. There is a strong inherent classism within Illyria, the rich wealthy upper class looking down upon the low working class and seeing them as dirt on the ground while the low class see the high class as leeches of the island and monsters obsessed with greed. However, Illyrians have two principles that they all share: that being everyone in remnant deserves a safe home and that all differences can be put aside in the celebration of the arts. Overall, partly in thanks to the island being founded and mostly populated by immigrants, Illyria is a melting pot of cultures around remnant. Illyria is often regarded as a place that treats faunus citizens well, bringing into mind the 'equality in the face of survival' attitude from vacuoan migrants.
• Religious: There is a strong religious culture built on the principles that founded Illyria. In Illyria, there is strong religious tolerance and culture created by people who came to the island during the war. Illyria has various churches and temples for people of all religions to use, and makes religious tolerance mandatory in the workplace and social environments.

Military

General Military

Illyria’s possess a general military but with a twist. The Illyrian Army is a well intentioned militia that works as a defence force for the island in place of a police system. Civilians have an opportunity to enlist for paid work within the military, whether it be as a local city guard, part of the agricultural guard, or in the local navy. General militia will be provided with one sword, a side arm, and a rifle, as well as a standard uniform that they are allowed to customise. The higher rank the individual, the more customised their uniform will be. Members of the military can chose to subtract one or all of the standard issue weapons to use their personal weapon.

The Knights of Illyria

The circle of Illyria’s most elite hunters and huntresses, The Knights of Illyria are up to 12 personally selected individuals who have shown great combat ability and moral righteousness that will serve the country. After completing their combat training at Arden Academy and at their respective huntsman academy, the student can return to enrol in the defence school. Afterwards, these people can be selected to be apart of what is known as the squire system, in which they become an apprentice to a current knight and train under them if shown promise both as a person and as a hunter. During their apprenticeship, squires will complete a standard 2 year military service in Illyria and be personally trained by their Knight-mentor. In the event of a knight being out of commission, retiring or dying, the squire will take their place whether it be temporary or permanently.

Organisations and Companies

Illyrian Army - The Illyrian Army is the main form of defence that the island has against any threats, whether it be from grimm or otherwise.

Illyria Academies - The Illyrian Academies are the universities that are split into seven different schools based on the interests of the student.

Illyrian Opera Company - The Illyrian Opera Company is the main opera and performing company within the island. They are located in the Illyrian Opera House and put up many productions throughout their performance. The Opera Company is in a strong business partnership with the Bohemia Academy of the Arts, allowing the facilitation and education of their students and providing work experience.

Joyeuse Armory - Joyeuse Armory is the largest blacksmithing and weapons manufacturing company in Illyria. It is the main supplier of weapons, primarily close range melee weapons like swords and knives, for the Illyrian Army. During the era of Project Quartz, Joyeuse Armory became known for crafting the four Quartz Dust weapons - Blutgang, Papillon, Minos, and Red Death.

• Illyria is inspired by the fictional island of the same name in William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.
  • In real world history, Illyria was once a provence in Western Europe near the Balkans and ruled by both the Roman and Byzantine Empires.
• The political culture of Illyria falls heavily under the ideology of Democratic Socialism.
• Architecturally, Illyria is inspired by several European cities such as Stockholm & Uppsala in Sweden, Prague in the Czech Republic, Paris in France and Venice in Italy.
  • The arts culture of Illyria is also inspired by the period of Art, Music and Theatre from that of 19th century arts culture of Europe.
• In Illyria, the symbol of the Red Flower alludes to the peace and unity founded after the red war. According to accounts of the day after the end of the great war, the first flowers that bloomed were red.
