Property of Noctum Caeruleus

Esi? Yeah, she's a rival. Nice girl, if a bit brash...and more than a good fight. But think of it this way: You lay a finger on her...and you have me to deal with. Capisce?

Physicality[]

Dressed in dark colors, mainly a blend of white, various shades of slate, and black, Slate's two outfits don't really draw much attention. His first: A leather hooded jacket with fur around the collar, a dark shirt with a blue celtic knot in the shape of a cat, dark jeans held up by two belts. One of which is attached to a quiver on his left hip. His gauntlets are almost always on, and when they aren't, they're clipped to his belt opposite of his quiver.

His second outfit is much more...combat worthy. Light armor plates are strapped to knee high boots, and he gains a single pauldron on his right arm for added protection when shooting. He calls it 'Rogue'- and for good reason. Gaining a cloth that covers most of his facial features, and a few dust vials on his belt for extra damage, he looks like a typical RPG rogue.

But once the hood comes off, he really can't be called intimidating. In the slightest. With a cute, boyish face with bright amber eyes, most attention he tends to get is either teasing from his best friend and rival...or the shouts of Kawaii. Adding to his shorter than average hieght, thinner build, and a rather prominant cat tail makes it oh so much worse.

Personality[]

Slate is a very calm person. Generally easygoing and peacable, he normally has a quiet smile on his features and a lax, unaggressive posture. He takes jokes in stride and laughs them off. It's rather hard to get under his skin.

Unless you're Esi Akhet, that is. His longtime friend and rival can rile him up like no other. Since they were about eight,  she had been finding what made him tick and aggravates him. But he wouldn't change it: showing a fierce protection of her more akin to that of a significant other than a friend. Of course, he'll deny everything to your face and to himself, citing she's just a friend. That doesn't stop him from bugging her back, though. From poking her in the side or ears to teasing her verbally, the two have what is possibly the most denial filled love-hate relationship ever. (Exaggeration for dramatic effect.)

One small thing...because of his small stature and other details (Cat tail included), he has found a fiery hatred of being called cute, Kawaii, or any other form of being adorable. Which creates rather funny situations, as he tends to has minor catlike tendancies when asleep.

And as a final note, he tends to have an almost bloodlust like state in combat. Or at least, at the sight of blood while fighting. He never figured out why, it was just a trait he was born with. It makes combat with him...interesting, to say the least.

History[]

Slate has had a fairly basic life for a faunus. Parent's are slightly lower class, but decent people. His father was a hunter who taught him how to shoot a bow, and his mother was a housewife. Hardworking and slightly genaric, the faunus pair supported the White Fang up until the protests turn violent. At that point, they turned away from anything to do with the Faunus support group.

The young Mao himself was raised pretty standardly: His father, as stated above, taught him how to work a bow, and he went to school. Slightly above average grades, and picked on by kids...which occasionally resulted in him getting into brutal fights. And this revealed a startling fact about the small cat: once blood was drawn, he'd go into a frenzy to see more of it in combat. It's kinda how he met Esi actually. The Cait Sidhe had been getting picked on for having a tail, the other boys yanking it and being general jerks. And Esi walked up to one, started chewing him out, and socked him. Right in the jaw.

Let it be known now that Slate has forever been wary of Esi's right hook since day one.

Anyways, the two ended up having to brawl their way out. And became practically inseperable afterwards. Then again, the call to the principle's office and subsequent parental conference with both allowed for his parental units to meet the Jackel. "If you two become friends, keep him out of trouble." was what his mother said, much to the child's chagrin. And later, amusement, as it was forever Slate pulling the calm and collected Esi out of trouble for her mouth sometimes. The two grew into rivals; Relentlessly teasing one another, always trying to outdo the other. It was rather fun, though it began to grow into what other people would see as a relationship.

Then the Talk of going to Signal and Beacon came up.

Slate had jokingly stated he would be a better Huntsman than Esi...and she didn't take kindly to that. What happened from there was rather simple: They applied to Signal and completed it, venturing to Beacon. What came after was something neither of them were prepared for.

Relations:[]

Esi Akhet: The two have been friends since they were eight. She's as protective of him as he is of her, and they tease each other mercilessly. Leads to some humorous situations where people think they are a couple.

Clyde Angkasa Luar: Teammate, doesn't know him too well. But he's generally nice to the significantly (much to Slate's Chagrin) taller male.

Pansy 'Nightmare' Gemma: Partner, but like Clyde, doesn't know her very well.

Equipment:[]

Weapon:[]

Fiain Tier (Pronounced Fae-on Tear): His weapon is a not so simple set of Gauntlets. The right handed gauntlet has two large blades going from the upper forearm to about two feet (60 cms) beyond his fingertips, with a cylindrical grip on his palm. In the ranged mode, the blades come forward and slide on either side of the grip, forming a bow.  On his left hand is a clawed gauntlet. The claws can pull back via a mechanism with a button that is activated by a muscle in his forearm. This enables him to draw and release the string unimpeded.

The arrows he uses are not made of wood, metal, or even plastic or fibreglass. They're made from varius forms of dust that he shapes into an arrow. Using his Aura, he shapes the dust into arrows and a string, firing various types of dust. He only has enough Vials for 20 of each type, and he can only carry four types. But Slate tries and (mostly) ensures that each and every arrow counts.

Combat:[]

Slate is an interesting Mix of long and close range. Mainly staying in the back and fighting in conjunction with his teammates, he tends to use the explosive power of Dust to hit with well placed, decisive shots. Even with Esi, he can supply her with extra Dust from range by shooting an arrow overhead during critical moments. At range, it's an almost typical archer fanfare: Judge the angle depending on position, wind direction and speed, and launch. Aura makes the process a bit smoother, but otherwise, it's mostly eyesight and a good amount of triganomitory.

In close combat is where things get hectic. If Slate can see the blood, he wants to see more of it. A lot more. His right arm is used for slashing and stabbing, while his left is for claws and punches. It's an interesting combat system, mainly involving spins, balance, and speed to get the job done. Slate is strong (He pulls a freakin' metal longbow) but he can't topple trees with a punch. The gauntlets are good for bone damage, though.

Semblace: (To be added Later)[]

Trivia:[]

  • His first name is a direct reference (about as direct as it gets) to the color of Slate Gray. The dark kind.
  • His last name is a reference to the Cait Sidhe, or more approprietly, the Cat Sith, a legend about the black cat.
  • Slate has some pretty good control over his tail, being able to poke people with it and the like. But he does NOT use it during combat, as it's too sensitive. Mainly just for humor, or to show emotion.
