Startale Vortigern, original name Ceil, is a member of the Vortigern Clan, a family of assassins, and is unofficially part of the Manxome family. A mysterious girl who rarely shows her face, she acts as the Manxome's 'black-ops', being involved in missions that are much more personal to the family and its goals as compared to the normal assassination business. She is the one who murdered Vulturn's mother and Smith's wife, Claire, at the orders of the Clan matriarch Estelle, making her a prime target of Smith's hidden wrath.
History[]
In reality, Startale is Vulturn's lost twin, who was supposed to have died in Estelle's womb in a case of 'Vanishing Twin Syndrome', but had her gasping soul/Aura consumed and maintained by the then present Vulturn.
Estelle had noticed the presence of a second consciousness inside Vulturn when he was of age 3 and had been successful to coax it out, using Startale's anger at her lost life to turn her against her mother, while also fostering in the child an emotional dependence on Estelle. It was after Vulturn withdrew into himself at age 5 when his big brother Zephyr died, did Startale take over his body and kill Claire right after she gave birth to Caroll, Vulturn's little sister.
Having seen what Startale and by extension he had done, Vulturn's mind fractured itself in an attempt to encase and then expel Startale from his body. Startale would have been killed were it not for Estelle being nearby, having anticipated these events. Just as Startale's soul was pushed out of Vulturn's body, Estelle provided her a body through the power of the Black Water, Free-Flow. A combination of sheer willpower and her powerful nature of her Aura allowed Startale to survive the exorcism, joining Estelle's side as a truly independent entity.

Just like any Vortigern Clan member, Startale is a highly trained assassin and is proficient in all of the Clan techniques, to an even greater degree than her twin Vulturn. The fact that her 'body' does not rely on muscle and nerves makes her incredibly strong and fast, while also feeling no pain from her injuries. Her fighting style is noted to possess a rough grace, being very deliberate and slow at first, but becoming exceedingly brutal in the blink of an eye.
Aura[]
Her weapons, The Blades of the Clock, are generated by and tied to her Semblance, Time Limited. Levitating around Startale at her command, the Clock-Blades are basically three massive clock-hands, each one corresponding to a hand of a clock and each with a special ability, all of which take Startale's lifespan as payment:
The Second-Hand is medium in size and is stylistically simple, being little more than a black thin blade connected a large circle. The Second-Hand is the fastest weapon of the three, capable of engaging enemies in a furious barrage of swings and stabs. Every time it strikes, one second of Startale's lifespan is taken. Its special ability is "Time's Innumerability" and allows the Second-Hand to multiply up to 200 copies, all under Startale's control for 10 minutes, sapping up to a day of Startale's life, depending on the number.
The Minute-Hand is the smallest and is intricate, ending in a tipped clubs. Average in speed, its attacks possess immense weight, enough to pierce right through walls and normal weapons, with every strike taking a minute out of Startale's lifespan. Its special ability is "Time's Inevitability". This ability allows Startale to reapply every injury that the Minute-Hand has ever dealt to a person all at the same time, spending ten days of her life to do so. This is useful to overwhelm a person who can regenerate or allow her to gradually wear down a strong person over repeated battles until she has accumulated enough injuries to kill them outright.
The Hour-Hand is the longest, being 3 meters long, and is the most visually impressive, made up of a multitude of lines weaving through it like fish-netting, before converging into a single long blade-tip that makes up a third of the length. As expected, it is the slowest weapon and takes an hour off Startale's lifespan but its swings are so powerful that they can cleave right through buildings and even create a flurry of cutting winds in its wake. Its special ability is "Time's Immensity" and when invoked, the Hour-Hand grows into a massive version of itself, its strength and speed increasing in proportion to its size. Focused on utterly annihilating its targeted enemy, the Hour-Hand will take as much of Startale's lifespan as needed to grow into a size that is enough to grind the target into paste, be it a Hunter or an entire city. While a normal Hunter could take half a day, exterminating an entire city like Vale, including Beacon Academy and every single resident, in one fell swoop would take ten years.
Because of their reliance on her lifespan, if Startale were seriously injured and expected to not last to her natural lifespan at that moment, then the Hands will begin to fade away, usually leaving only the Second-Hand behind and even that may not be there if the injury was truly mortal.
